Chest Tubes - Nursing Management and Assessment for NCLEX RN and LPN

For the patient safety you have to know the use chest tubes and how to manage it. At first why the patient put a chest tube they have problem in their lungs after the operation they have for the air section, water and for the blood section. In suction control chmber it should be up slowly not bubbling while the water seal chamber when you see tidling it was good but if it's too much bubble it's bad you have to report in health care provider and collection chamber if you saw a darkblood it's fine but bright redblood you have to inform Health Care provider. I'd something happen like disconnect the tube try the patient cough and exhale take a cover for a 3 strip so that it will still have air, you put antiseptic cough and exhale again the patient and put the tube. Check if the chest and make it xray for sure their is no air inside the lungs, if it destroy the tube put it the 250 ml sterile saline cough and exhale the patient and put it back again in the chamber. Always monitor the patient after surgery for the first hour then after the first 8 hour of a surgery every 2 hour again.. Just always note the changes.
