This GERAD Research Center seminar, jointly organized with IVADO, explores an AI approach to underspecified combinatorial optimization problems. Learn how intelligent systems can handle less well-defined optimization challenges by leveraging data or user interaction. Discover recent developments in decision-focused learning, including regression models that backpropagate through non-differentiable solvers, preference learning over historic solutions, user preference elicitation, explainable constraint solving, and LLM-based modeling support tools. The presentation covers research from the ERC Consolidator grant "Conversational Human-Aware Technology for Optimisation" (CHAT-Opt), led by KU Leuven researcher Tias Guns. The seminar is scheduled for May 26, 2025.
