The 2025 Hagel Lecture "America's Role in the World: Prospects for Peace and Stability" is the fifth lecture of the annual Hagel Lecture Series on Civil Politics and International Security, a forum hosted by the Chicago Project on Security and Threats CPOST at the University of Chicago to amplify and encourage greater civic participation in critical discussions. At this year's lecture, Chuck Hagel, the 24th U.S. Secretary of Defense, and William Burns, former CIA Director 2021-2025, discussed the challenges facing American national security and U.S. foreign policy. The discussion was moderated by CPOST's director Prof. Robert Pape and was followed by a Q&A session from the audience. The event took place on April 16, 2025, at the University of Chicago's Rubenstein Forum from 5pm to 6:30pm.
