Pests are herbivorous insects causing serious economic damage to crops and posing a serious challenge to sustainable agriculture across the globe. To combat this menace, farmers resolve to chemical means of control. These pesticides cause an ecological imbalance, poison the food and the environment. The insects tend to develop resistance against such chemical pesticides.

Old Farmers used to integrate other means to solve the same problem, which were quite unscientific.

Different Components of pest management were integrated in a scientific way to check the pest level and maintain it below the economic injury in Integrated Pest Management.

This course discusses categories of insects based on various parameters, survey pests and method used in the survey and its applications. The course will proceed to explain the principles of pest management and Integrated Pest Management System, components of pest management and integration tactics and end with examples of successful IPM techniques in India.

I like to say thank you to the facilitators of. this course. It was very insightful and educative. I learnt about the various methods involved in pest management, proper timing and application of pest control (ETL). Also i learnt how to prepare organic pesticides and also other cultural methods of keeping pest occurrence below Damage Boundary. The methods are very practical and easily applicable even as the lessons are simplified and easy to assimilate. I will always come back to the lessons over time for reference, my knowledge of different kinds of crop pest and the best ways to curb their injurious effect without serious environmental harm is greatly improved. The lessons on Nuclear Technology in IPM were very exciting and enlightening.

What i found most helpful is how the ecological and behavioural helps you understand what insects are you working with the impact of such insect and how they behave. What insecticide to use and how much insecticide to use this helps the with the restriction of insecticides and the impact it has on the the environment.
