Yunnan is endowed with abundant ethnic cultural resources. Promoting these cultures contributes to ethnic unity at home and helps tell China’s stories to the world. Based on Yunnan’s regional characteristics and the institution’s educational features, this course adopts an interdisciplinary approach that integrates the humanities and sciences. It combines knowledge learning, skills training, competence enhancement, and the cultivation of cultural values. The course, delivered in English, introduces the cultures of 25 indigenous ethnic minority groups in Yunnan, each with a population exceeding 5,000. It aims to enable students to:
1. Gain a systematic understanding of ethnic minority cultures in Yunnan;
2. Master English expressions related to ethnic cultural phenomena;
3. Develop the ability to introduce and communicate ethnic cultures in both spoken and written English;
4. Understand the core values embodied in ethnic minority cultures, such as the worldview of harmony between humanity and nature, the virtues of diligence and kindness, the philosophy of harmony and unity, the historical perspective of creativity and evolution, and the ecological view of shared origin and coexistence;
5. Strengthen the sense of community for the Chinese nationa, build cultural confidence, deepen emotional identification with the nation, and consciously uphold ethnic unity.
