This course focuses on responsive, intelligent lighting environments. It explains why lighting quality matters, how it can be measured and how effective solutions can be delivered in practice.
Beginning with human circadian rhythms and patterns of behaviour, the course brings visual quality, wellbeing and energy efficiency into one framework. Using layered lighting, it examines correlated colour temperature (CCT), colour rendering, glare control, illuminance and luminance, and shows how light sources, luminaires, drivers, sensors and controllers work together.
Teaching follows professional practice, from needs assessment and measurable objectives to luminaire layout, control strategies, commissioning and evaluation. Across residential, office, education, healthcare, hospitality and retail settings, learners gain practical schedules, calculation templates and a verification-and-iteration approach to designing with light.
