This course covers a broad spectrum of prenatal screening and diagnosis, forming a complete knowledge system that progresses from foundational genetic counseling to specific screening techniques and in-depth diagnostic methods. In particular, we place strong emphasis on the importance of genetic counseling, with detailed discussions on modes of inheritance, counseling procedures, and core objectives—providing learners with a solid theoretical foundation. Concurrently, we explore the definition, classification, common types, and prevention strategies of birth defects, enabling learners to develop a comprehensive understanding of this critical area.
In terms of content, the course preserves classical theories of prenatal screening and diagnosis while integrating the latest technological advances. For example, we provide in-depth coverage of cutting-edge screening technologies including non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) using cell-free fetal DNA from maternal peripheral blood, as well as first-trimester and second-trimester detailed anomaly scans (commonly known as "major" and "minor" malformation ultrasounds), ensuring that learners stay current with evolving medical practice. At the same time, we demonstrate the diversity and practicality of prenatal diagnosis through established techniques such as Doppler ultrasound applications.
Beyond theoretical instruction, this course places a strong emphasis on cultivating practical operational competencies. We offer a wealth of case-based analyses to help learners apply theoretical knowledge to real-world clinical scenarios. For instance, when walking through specific steps of prenatal screening and diagnostic procedures, we incorporate authentic clinical cases to explain in detail the key operational points and precautions at each stage, allowing learners to more intuitively grasp and master the relevant skills.
