This course explores two key areas for understanding how to read and interpret Korean classical literature. First, we explore the lives and literature of renowned figures from Korean history. In ancient Korean history, notable individuals such as Kim Yu-sin, King Sejong, Admiral Yi Sun-sin, and Hwang Jin-i made significant contributions. Through the examination of their lives and literary works, we aim to trace a particular flow in the history of Korean classical literature. Secondly, we study Korean classical literature as a source for K-content. Many pieces of K-content—such as webtoons, dramas, and films—draw upon narrative elements from Korean classical literature. By comparing K-content with classical literature, we seek to understand the key characteristics of Korean classical literature.
