The application of ropes and knots in the fire service is limited only by the firefighter's imagination. Varying from a single rope control line to a complex mechanical advantage system, firefighters will be required to understand rope and webbing, knots, and their applications in the fire and rescue environment.  Understanding rope materials and construction gives you the foundational knowledge of limitations and applications of rope systems. As you advance on you will understand elements of knots and using those knots for hoisting, and rescue operations. As you continue to progress throughout your career and knowledge you will progress into mechanical advantage, hardware and rescue systems. These complex systems are still built off of the basic principles of ropes and knots. Whether it be a search rope, a control zone, or a complex rescue system the firefighter's knowledge of the basics will ensure proficiency in the overall application.  This course offers 4 CE hours covering ropes, webbing, and knots. As well as an interactive practice session and a module quiz based off IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting, 7th Edition Manual. This course satisfies: NFPA 1001 4.1.2, 4.3.3, 4.3.9, 4.3.20, 4.5.1
