This self-paced course is designed for counsellors working in higher educational institutions. It provides practical knowledge and skills to identify, assess, and respond to substance use problems among students at an early stage.

Participants will learn how to use the WHO-ASSIST Screening Tool, conduct brief interventions, provide appropriate referrals, maintain confidentiality, document interventions, and support Student Wellness Programmes. The course follows a student-centred, health-focused, and non-punitive approach aligned with national guidelines.

✔ Understand common patterns of substance use among students. ✔ Explain the health, academic, and psychosocial impact of substance use. ✔ Administer and score the WHO-ASSIST Screening Tool. ✔ Interpret screening results and provide appropriate feedback. ✔ Conduct brief interventions using evidence-based approaches. ✔ Refer students to appropriate support and treatment services. ✔ Maintain confidentiality and follow ethical practices. ✔ Document screening and intervention activities effectively. ✔ Support monitoring and evaluation activities within Student Wellness Programmes.
