ABOUT THE COURSE:
This course gives a comprehensive overview of solar photovoltaic power systems, focusing on their design aspects – from resource assessment to power output. The course begins with equipping the learners with practical tools for doing solar radiation resource assessment for analyzing the feasibility of a solar PV project. It then delves on the working and design aspects of solar cells – dealing with their various types of efficiencies, electrical models, parameters and design of high efficiency solar cells. The course then goes on to deal with the design aspects of solar modules – series/ parallel connections, bypass diodes, prevention of hotspots, and the temperature and irradiation dependency of their output. Finally, the course looks into the macro-level design aspects of the solar PV plant: from cabling to power conditioning unit to components’ sizing. The course is highly application-oriented and equips the learners with industry-ready skills for creating a career in the solar PV industry.

Any student from B.Tech/ BE 2nd year or above can take the course as an elective
