Have you seen a child being too aggressive – hitting and hurting other children, destroying things etc..? Have you seen a boy/girl being too timid, withdrawn, aloof, isolated? Have you seen an adolescent high school student being reckless, indulge in risk behaviours – smoking, drug and alcohol abuse? All of us have seen and have wondered why? Why the children are like this? How to set right these children? What should be done to avoid these problem behaviours? How to identify and address these behaviours and intervene to mainstream them? The students need not be exceptional to encounter problems in school. They face a diverse array of problems and challenges as they progress through school years which manifests itself through these behaviors. We know that the children are an asset for a country since they are the future nation builders and their health and wellbeing always remains as a primary concern. Children of elementary school, middle school and high school spend the active part of their day at school and hence, school plays a very important role in moulding the personality which endures through thoughts, feelings and behaviours of the students.

There are no formal requirements for the course. The series consists of 21 lectures that are organized into three modules. The lectures include small assignments and quizzes (to check comprehension). The lectures will each touch upon a topic that is essential to the information seeking process. To get the most out of the lecture series, we recommend that you access the lectures while you are working on an academic paper. We also recommend that you watch the lectures in the order in which we have structured them. We recommend that you create and fill out a log book while attending the lectures. We have created a log book template that you can use during the course.

The course on School counselling is a much needed course. The syllabus of the course is well framed comprising the techniques and strategies of counselling school children. The theoretical framework of counselling in developmental perspective was clearly explained. The course is very comprehensive. It includes all the important aspects of school counseling, all the problems that the counselors can face while dealing with the children. The course caters to the different approaches of counseling and different techniques and therapies that can be used for effective counseling sessions. It consists all the relevant history of counseling , the background and theories that are associated with counseling. The course also covers the area of different difficulties that children might go through as they grow up, and enter adolescence, the children who have a difficult environment at home . It emphasises the role of a school counselor and the steps that can be taken by the counselor. The modules cover each and everything very precisely. They are crisp and well written. The videos help in understanding and clearing any doubts that we might have while reading the e-text. The graded assignment every week not only keeps us regular but also helps in comprehending the matter that we have learnt. However there can be more subjective assignments in the course , and while submitting the subjective assignment, there should be an option to submit again because sometimes due to technical glitch, it gets submitted on its own. Overall, the course is very well comprehensive and provides a deep insight into school counseling.

I am grateful to the course mentor for help me to learn a lot with proper guide and relevant e-text (with vivid explanation Videos). I am also amazed to study the course 'School Counselling' as a teacher to acquire a various theories, steps or techniques that surely help me to support my fellow students with great care and affections for inspiring them to do good in their future life. And even I try my best to take a number of positive steps for the total development those who are misdirect from study due to health or mental disorder/confusion. In the present situation, maximum guardians are faced a great trouble for their children who are misled from study and normal behaviours. I personally admit that without this course my life is incomplete for the knowledge of counselling students. I consider/think that all existing teachers, to be teachers and even the guardians must have knowledge of counselling students/ children. Thank you much.
