Upon completing the Regional Planning and Development course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of regional planning concepts, principles, types, and approaches used for balanced and sustainable development. The course enhance the knowledge of master plans, watershed management, and various indicators used to assess regional development. The course enables learners to critically examine major theories of regional development, including the Vicious Cycle of Poverty, Dependency Theory, Core–Periphery Theory, Classical, Marxian, Schumpeterian, Rostow’s, Myrdal’s, and Growth Pole theories, as well as models such as Leontief’s Input–Output Model and the Limits to Growth Model. Students will evaluate the achievements and limitations of India’s Five-Year Plans and understand the impacts of globalization, Agenda 21, MDGs, and SDGs on development planning. The course also enhances awareness of the Human Development Index, decentralization, the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, and the vision of Viksit Bharat, equipping students with analytical skills to address regional disparities and promote inclusive development.
