The course begins with an in-depth exploration of the basic principles of qualitative research, including its philosophical foundations, research design strategies, ethical considerations, and techniques for ensuring research quality. From Week 2 onward, participants are introduced to MAXQDA, where they learn to create projects, import and organize diverse data types, and perform essential data management tasks. The subsequent modules guide learners through the core processes of qualitative analysis using MAXQDA. Participants develop skills in audio/video transcription, a range of coding techniques (from basic to advanced), qualitative data visualization, and handling both survey and focus group data. Key tools such as memos, code systems, and querying functions are covered in depth to support robust qualitative analysis. The course places particular emphasis on developing learners' competence in advanced qualitative analysis by addressing topics for which authentic learning resources are often limited. These include thematic analysis, conducting literature reviews using MAXQDA, grounded theory development, and social network analysis, among others. Learners are also introduced to mixed methods integration and content analysis using MAXDictio, with guidance on combining qualitative and quantitative techniques for comprehensive mixed-method research. Additionally, the course covers AI-assisted data analysis and the management of collaborative research projects using MAXQDA. Participants learn to work in teams, manage version control, and critically assess the strengths and limitations of automated coding and thematic pattern recognition through MAXQDA’s AI Assist module. Each week features an opening case or problem scenario, interactive video lectures, and a short quiz to reinforce learning. By the end of the course, learners will not only be equipped to conduct rigorous qualitative analysis but would also gain sufficient confidence in applying MAXQDA to real-world research projects.
