ABOUT THE COURSE:Phlebotomy is a specialization of the hematology branch, which is designed to teach and provide knowledge in technical and procedural aspects. The program will teach students to elucidate the concepts and introduce them to phlebotomy & infection control, legal issues in healthcare, with a brief introduction to the human body system, focusing on anatomical & physiological aspects. The course also covers laboratory equipment & phlebotomy techniques. This program is designed for learners who want to advance their career or are interested in starting a career in the healthcare and allied field, to become a phlebotomist.INTENDED AUDIENCE:10+2 pass out or at national occupational standard students, Medical, Health Care and Allied students, Students of Vocational (B. Voc. MLT and M. Voc. Syllabus

Week 1:Introduction to phlebotomy and the health care system.
Week 2:Body systems 1: Basics of anatomy about phlebotomy study.
Week 3:Body systems 2: Basics of physiology for phlebotomy study.
Week 4:The clinical laboratory: Basics of hematology about phlebotomy study.
Week 5:Brief understanding of laboratory planning and key laboratory outcome operations. Regulatory, ethical, and legal issues, safety precautions, and infection control.
Week 6:Understanding of laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, microscopy, etc.
Week 7:Calibrating and validating, operating, cleaning, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis. Identifying the cause of errors or other defects in equipment.
Week 8:Phlebotomy application and medical terminology. Patient rights, consent, safety, and first aid.
Week 9:Guidelines for phlebotomy and application of anticoagulants, their uses, mode of action, merits and demerits, automation in blood collection.
Week 10:Understanding of phlebotomy techniques.
Week 11:Biomedical waste management.
Week 12:Phlebotomy responsibilities, duties, and additional tasks assigned to phlebotomists.
