ABOUT THE COURSE:This course offers a spatial perspective of tourism phenomenon, and enables students to comprehend its nature, factors responsible and relations to wider economic development process. It takes students from a conceptual understanding of geography of tourism through its regional and world patterns and impacts to the level of the role that policy and planning play in tourism development. Students would learn how cultural heritage and tourism are interrelated and influence one another.INTENDED AUDIENCE:This is a relevant course for Undergraduate Students of Geography. In addition, various courses of Tourism and Transport, Tourism and Hospitality and similar course are taught at several universities and institutes and hence the course is open to all such students.PREREQUISITES:The course is planned for a multidisciplinary background set of students to enable them to learn spatial perspective on tourism and its associated factors and sectors. It intends to offer a holistic view of geography of tourism: i) to introduce students on nature and scope of geography of tourism; ii) to explain the students about trends in and tourism as an industry; iii) to introduce students about models of ecotourism and its impacts; and iv) to acquaint the knowledge of sustainable tourism development planning.
