Week 3: AC Motors - Single-Phase Types

  • Introduction to Single-Phase AC Motors.

  • Types: Split-phase, Capacitor-start, Capacitor-run, and Shaded Pole Motors.

  • Comparison of their characteristics and applications.

  • Maintenance Procedure for single-phase motors.


Week 4: AC Motors - Three-Phase Induction Motors

  • Three-Phase Induction Motors: Squirrel Cage and Slip Ring types.

  • Construction, operation, and performance characteristics.

  • Starting and Braking methods for Three-Phase Induction Motors.

  • Determining Motor Ratings for different applications.


Week 5: DC Drives - Phase-Controlled (Part 1)

  • Single-phase SCR Drives: Half-wave and Full-wave configurations.

  • Semi-converter and Dual Converter operations.

  • Maintenance Procedure for phase-controlled drives.


Week 6: DC Drives - Phase-Controlled (Part 2) & Chopper Drives

  • Three-phase SCR Drives: Half-wave, Full-wave, Semi, and Dual converter.

  • Reversible Drives.

  • Speed Control of DC Series Motors.

  • Introduction to Chopper-controlled DC Drives.


Week 7: DC Drives - Modern Applications & Mid-Course Review

  • Applications of DC Drives in Solar/Battery-Powered Vehicles.

Week 8: AC Drives - Induction Motor Control (Part 1)

  • Introduction to AC Drives.
