ABOUT THE COURSE:
Fluid mechanics lies at the heart of how the natural and engineered world moves — from air flowing over aircraft wings to blood circulating through arteries. This course develops a fundamental understanding of fluid motion and the governing laws that describe it. Starting from the continuum description of fluids, it builds the kinematics and dynamics of flow through the principles of mass and momentum conservation. The emphasis is on connecting physical reasoning with mathematical formulation, leading to classical laminar flow solutions of the Navier–Stokes equations and an introduction to boundary-layer theory. The course provides a strong foundation for further studies and applications in fluid mechanics across engineering and the physical sciences.
INTENDED AUDIENCE: UG/PG
PREREQUISITES: Basic knowledge of mathematics and mechanics
INDUSTRY SUPPORT:
Oil & Energy: IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, Shell, ONGC.
Automobile & Aerospace: Tata Motors, Airbus, Boeing, GE Aviation.
Power & Process Engineering: BHEL, Siemens Energy, Reliance, L&T.
Simulation & R&D: ANSYS, COMSOL
