ABOUT THE COURSE:Over the past few decades, the humanities have undergone a profound transformation with the emergence of digital technologies. Texts, archives, maps, images and cultural records that were once confined to physical repositories are now increasingly produced, preserved and analysed in digital environments. This shift has given rise to an exciting interdisciplinary field known as Digital Humanities.
This course introduces learners to the conceptual foundations and practical applications of digital humanities. We will explore how computational tools can assist humanities scholars in analysing large bodies of texts, mapping cultural spaces, visualising relationships between literary characters, and extracting meaningful patterns from digital data.
Throughout the course, we will examine methods such as digital text analysis, network analysis, web data extraction, geospatial mapping, and immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.Alongside these tools, we will also discuss the theoretical and ethical questions raised by the growing presence of technology in humanities research.
The aim of the course is not merely to teach digital tools, but to encourage learners to rethink the ways in which knowledge in the humanities is produced, interpreted and shared in the digital age.
By the end of this course, participants will gain both a conceptual understanding of digital humanities and a practical orientation towards using digital methods in their own research.
