ABOUT THE COURSE:
Fink’s model of teaching strongly suggests that course design has the greatest influence on the quality of learning. There are many Instructional System Design models in use for the design of courses. ADDIE model and its minor variants have been the most extensively used ones for several decades. The ADDIE model has five phases of activities. The sub-processes of each phase can be designed to suit the nature and purpose of a course. While designing one’s course for the first time takes considerable effort, both the teacher and the students will benefit significantly from the course designed according to such a process.
Students now have their own access to information, the option to learn virtually, and platforms to easily connect with faculty and other students. Education can take on a more networked approach, with students having their own direct connection to a variety of different information sources. This makes it possible for a more personalized way of learning that can celebrate the student’s independence and unique approach to study. One of the goals of NEP 2020 is a holistic and multidisciplinary education with the aim to develop all capacities of human beings - intellectual, aesthetic, social, physical, emotional, and moral in an integrated manner. It also proposes imaginative and flexible curricular structures to enable creative combinations of disciplines for study and incorporate multiple entry and exit points. Towards the attainment of holistic and multidisciplinary education, the flexible and innovative curricula of all HEIs shall include credit-based courses and projects in the areas of community engagement and service, environmental education, and value-based education. NEP also envisions ensuring equitable access to quality education for all students, with a special emphasis on Socially and Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs), developing and supporting technology tools for better participation and learning outcomes. Curricula design of undergraduate engineering programs in India needs to be done in the framework of NEP 2020.
