¡Bienvenidos! This second course in the specialization will build on the basic vocabulary you learned in the first course, and you will begin to build the skills necessary to express your likes and dislikes orally and in writing. You’ll also begin to explore the some of the common cultural experiences of the Spanish-speaking world through a visit to the marketplace. A series of interactive activities and videos will provide opportunities for practice and continued exploration of the cultural context of the Spanish-speaking world.

Syllabus

  • Talking About the Market and Food
    • In this module, you will build vocabulary related to food and the market. You will use gustar to express likes and dislikes, form questions and requests, work with indirect object pronouns, review numbers 1–100, practice additional irregular verbs in the present tense, and recognize Spanish expressions that fit common conversations.
  • Talking About Daily Routines
    • In this module, you will talk about daily and weekly routines and use reflexive pronouns in the context of everyday life. You will also describe changes in mental or physical state, refer to recent events that connect to the present, and work with the names of the days of the week and calendar months.
  • Talking About Leisure
    • In this module, you will talk about leisure and free-time topics while building key grammar and language concepts. You will work with ser and estar, express future obligations with tener que + infinitive, conjugate irregular present-tense verbs, use possessive adjectives, and engage with cultural details related to Mexico.
