Teaching Wind Energy: For Primary and Secondary School Teachers

The need for future engineers in renewable energy is growing rapidly. The children of today need to understand the importance of renewable energy and discover how exciting, engaging, and diverse the field of wind energy can be.. Building that enthusiasm for engineering and science can make a great start in your classroom! And the course applies equally to other learning contexts if you are not based in a school.

This course introduces the basic technical aspects of wind energy via engaging, hands-on activities, and will equip you with learning materials ready to be used with students.

Each week covers a different topic and includes one or two activities or experiments. The theoretical explanations give you, as the teacher, a solid knowledge basis and the confidence to guide your pupils through the activities. Most of these have age indicators and instructions on how to adapt the activities to the specific level in your classroom.

In the first week, you will learn the fundamental concepts of wind energy that you can build on in the following weeks.

The other weeks (or topics) can be taken as standalone modules. This way, you can tailor the course to your specific needs. However, note there is progression in some activities where the knowledge is built gradually, especially for older age groups.

The course contains many different tools to equip you, as a teacher, to explore the world of wind energy with your pupils such as:

• Custom-made animations and videos which are ready to use

• Quizzes, classroom exercises, fact sheets.

• Dedicated teachers’ manuals with additional guidance Templates for lesson plans.

Even if you are not a teacher but are interested in helping children learn about wind energy, this course provides you with the tools and resources you need to confidently teach them.

The goal of this course is to make wind energy accessible and approachable to learners around the world, regardless of their location. The activities are designed so that only basic resources are needed, that are usually available in schools or in most households. There is no need to purchase expensive technical equipment. The teaching materials are in English.
