This course examines how raw wool is measured and classified for sale in Australia, including the instruments, procedures, and changing technologies involved. It also considers how test results affect processing, sheep management, and wool traceability from farm to consumer.

Syllabus

  • Explain the principles of measurement and their relationship with sampling regimes used in the Australian wool industry
  • Identify and describe the main techniques and procedures of measuring and classifying raw wool tested for sale in Australia.
  • Compare the contrast the different methods and instruments used to measure and classify raw wool tested for sale in Australia.
  • Outline how measurement methods and techniques have changed/improved to benefit the Australian wool industry.
  • Explain how wool measurement test results impact on processing and reflect on ways wool measurement test results may be used in sheep management on farm.
  • Explain and evaluate both the importance of traceability of wool and the systems and technology that support traceability and provenance of wool product, from farm to consumer, in the Australian Wool industry.
