This course prepares participants to provide career consultations and planning for people with disabilities. It covers disability discrimination and disclosure, employment programs, career development frameworks, and universal design for learning.

Syllabus

  • Communicate effectively with students with disabilities during career consultations
  • Identify and address different forms of disability discrimination and provide accurate information to students with disabilities
  • Make appropriate recommendations for available employment programs for students with disabilities
  • Implement career development frameworks in consultation and career planning with students with disabilities
  • Identify and address if and how to disclose disabilities in the workplace.
  • Implement universal design for learning into program delivery
  • Participants will have developed capacity to communicate effectively with students with disabilities during career consultations
  • Participants will have developed comprehension of social model for inclusion
  • Participants will have gained knowledge and understanding of various legislations and acts relating to disability discrimination
  • Participants will be able to identify and address different forms of disability discrimination
  • Participants have developed agency in providing information on discrimination to students with disabilities
  • Participants will have gained knowledge and understanding of various legislations and acts relating to disability disclosure
  • Participants will be able to critically evaluate the circumstances of the individual they are consulting and provide guidance around disclosure.
  • Participants have increased knowledge of available employment related programs for students with disabilities
  • Participants have increased capacity to deliver information relating to these programs to students.
  • Participants have developed understanding of career development theories and how they relate to students with disabilities
  • Participants have developed capacity to implement career development frameworks in consultation and career planning with students with disabilities
  • Participants have developed understanding of the importance of program design around the concepts of universal design for learning and how this relates to students with disabilities
  • Participants have developed capacity to implement universal design for learning into their own program delivery
