Goals and Outcomes

The goals/objectives for this course are:

· To provide the student with a foundation of the concept of management, recognizing it as both an art and a science.

· To acquaint the student with the management process that includes understanding the theory and practice of management.

· To provide the student with an understanding of the four major functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, controlling and their application in today’s workplace.

· To gain an appreciation for the scope and complexity of business decision making and information needs.

· Be able to organize business information and structure decision problems.

The course outcomes (CO) for this course are:

Upon completing this course, the learner should be able to:

CO1 -Identify the historical development of management from traditional to modern concepts. (C2)

CO2 -Explain management from global context and the needs for business to act ethically and being socially responsible towards stakeholders. (C4)

CO3 -Describe the concepts and theories in the main functions of management; planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. (A3)

CO4 -Analyze basic management tools to the main functions of management in solving organizational problems. (C4)

Who should attend :

1. Students in any field of undergraduate programmes, who would need to learn basic principles of management.

2. Suitable for the general public, starting as early as 15 years old.

Skills required for the course :

Learners are expected to have basic knowledge in using personal computers and internet. Therefore, some of the terms and concepts related to computers, multimedia and the internet need not be repeated nor elaborated again in this courseware.

Syllabus

  • At the end of this course, students will be able to identify the historical development of management from traditional to modern concepts, explain management from global context and the needs for business to act ethically and being socially responsible towards stakeholders, furthermore to describe the concepts and theories in the main functions of management; planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, and lastly to analyse basic management tools to the main functions of management in solving organizational problems.
