This course is divided intothree main components:

2.Workshop

3.Practice and Competency Assessment

Open Distance Learning (ODL) Theory

1.This session consists of iLectures onpermanent and temporary vascular access. Topics include:

oAnatomy of vessels and creation of vascular access

oCommon complications related to vascular access

oAssessment of vascular access

oClient education on vascular access care

2.Participants should allocateapproximately 8 hoursto complete this session.

3.Before starting the iLectures, participants must complete apre-assessment quiz(not graded) to check baseline knowledge.

4. The ODL module will be available anytime and can be accessed from anywhere.

5.Completion of this module iscompulsorybefore proceeding to the workshop

Workshop

1.The workshop will be conducted at theBBraun Training Centre, Petaling Jaya.

2.It is scheduled for19 April and 28 June 2026 (9:00 am – 1:00 pm).

3.Participants will receive hands-on training in:

oCannulation and decannulation techniques

oTemporary vascular access dressing and care

Practice and Competency Assessment

1.After the workshop, participants are required to practice the skills at their respective dialysis centres.

2.Under the supervision of a certified preceptor, participants must perform and record in thecompetency logbook:

o5 proceduresof vascular assessment, cannulation, and decannulation

o5 proceduresof temporary vascular access assessment and dressing

3. The practice activities and assessments are required to be completed within a specified timeframe, which will be communicated separately.

4.The completed competency logbook must be uploaded onto the Open Learning platform using the link provided.

5.Following submission, participants must complete apost-assessment testto evaluate knowledge gained.

Feedback and Certification

1.Upon completing all required tasks, participants must submit thefeedback evaluation formprovided.

2.Acertificate of completion will be awarded once all requirements are fulfilled.

Syllabus

  • Identify the risk associated with vascular access and care of vascular access in hemodialysis
  • Manage common vascular access complications
  • Educate clients on vascular access care and self-monitoring
  • Demonstrate correct technique for vascular access cannulation and decannulation
  • Demonstrate catheter care bundle for temporary vascular access
