Course Overview
This course is made up of 5 core modules that not only introduce you to the techniques of facilitation but also get you using them as quickly as possible. You can work through them at your own pace and alter your focus based on your own interests.
Module 1: New perspectives, new ideas
We start by resetting our thoughts about our roles as educators and opening ourselves up to some new (and some radical) ideas about how we go about our work. You will have the chance to examine your own strengths as an educator and learn how to harness them to become an inspiring facilitator. You’ll also get equipped with a selection of quick and easy tips that you can start using right away.
Module 2: Building your environment
They say it takes a village to raise a child – and they’re right. It also takes a village to create the most meaningful educational experiences for students, and that village isn’t going to build itself! Whether you teach in a face-to-face, online or blended context, the environment that you create for your students has a huge effect on their ability to thrive. In this module, we examine a number of practical ways you can make your students feel comfortable, welcome and inspired.
Module 3: Cultivating your community
In this module, we investigate the incredibly rewarding work of community creation in an educational environment. This is the most important skill of a facilitator, and yet it is often something that is overlooked in many educational contexts. Through a range of fun and challenging activities, our community will examine what works and what doesn't when it comes to community creation.
Module 4: Going deeper:
Why does this stuff work? In this module, we get a little more academic as we look at some of the psychological and philosophical reasons behind why these techniques work. But don’t worry – we’ll tackle it together and once you’ve thought about these things deeply it just might change your perspective on teaching forever.
Module 5: Released!
Once you've applied some of the ideas in the course to your own work, come back and show off your facilitation skills here!
