This course develops foundational essay-writing skills, from organizing ideas and writing effective paragraphs to constructing thesis statements, connecting supporting details, and concluding essays.

  • Identify the theoretical parts of essay writing.
  • Organise written ideas with grammatically correct language.
  • Identify four features of a paragraph.
  • Develop ideas for writing a paragraph.
  • Identify effective topic sentences.
  • Describe parts of an essay.
  • Differentiate hook from the main idea.
  • Identify effective thesis statements.
  • Develop well-structured body paragraphs with supporting details.
  • Use connectors to build relationships between supporting details.
  • Use transitions to build relationships between body paragraphs.
  • Conclude an essay by reiterating the essay’s central idea.
  • Finalise the concluding paragraph with suggestions or opinion.
