  • Understand key components of good clinical governance and how it supports safe, high-quality care in everyday practice.
  • Differentiate features of strong versus weak clinical governance by examining case scenarios from your own or simulated clinical context.
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of individuals and teams in clinical governance
  • Identify different types and sources of data and how to use it to inform improvement priorities.
  • Understand the core principles of continuous improvement and apply the Model for Improvement framework to small-scale, practice-based improvement projects.
  • Understand the purpose of co-design and how you can meaningfully partner with people who use your service.
  • Analyse common reasons for resistance to change in clinical settings and formulate at least two strategies to address these barriers in your own workplace.
  • Understand change management principles and a model to follow when implementing a new change in the workplace
  • Understand different communication strategies to engage stakeholders and support implementation of change.
  • Reflect on your own leadership behaviours and attitudes towards quality and safety, and document at least two specific actions you will take to strengthen your leadership in clinical governance and continuous improvement.
  • Summarise how clinical governance, continuous improvement, co-design, change management and communication strategies interrelate, using an example from your current or intended practice.
  • Interpret basic quality and safety data by trending, charting or graphing sample datasets, and summarise key patterns, risks and opportunities for improvement for your team.
