**Course Review: Forms and Uses of Language**
The course “Forms and Uses of Language” was, in structure and delivery, more akin to a biographical tribute than a balanced academic exploration. While the material was well-written and the promised duration accurate—something I genuinely appreciate—the overwhelming focus on Siegfried Sassoon gave the impression that the course author held a near-reverent admiration for him. This singular lens narrowed the scope considerably, limiting broader engagement with the topic of language use across contexts.

Rather than drawing from diverse examples or contemporary applications, the course leaned heavily on Sassoon’s life, writings, and anti-war sentiments, often stretching to connect his personal narrative to the broader theme. In my view, this approach rendered the content outdated and misaligned with modern linguistic or literary analysis. If the intent was to explore memorial language, it was obscured by what felt like a personal agenda.

That said, the exercises were thoughtfully constructed, and the certificate of completion was delivered as described, adding value to the experience. I remain grateful for the opportunity to engage with the material, though I would recommend future iterations adopt a more inclusive and current framework to better serve learners seeking a comprehensive understanding of language in form and function.
