Build Microsoft Excel skills for the workplace, from spreadsheet fundamentals to advanced data analysis. Designed for beginners with no prior Excel experience, this Microsoft Professional Certificate helps you organize, analyze, and communicate data in real-world business settings.
You’ll begin with Excel formulas, functions, tables, data validation, and conditional formatting. As you progress, you’ll use SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, AND, OR, VLOOKUP, and XLOOKUP to calculate, organize, and retrieve information. You’ll also create PivotTables, Pivot Charts, slicers, charts, and dashboards to identify trends and communicate insights.
Build advanced data skills with Power Query to import, clean, and combine data, and Power Pivot and DAX to create data models and perform sophisticated analysis. You’ll also learn how Copilot for Excel and ChatGPT can support analysis, formulas, and everyday Excel workflows.
Beyond technical skills, you’ll learn to collaborate and co-author workbooks, manage files, and apply practical governance practices. Hands-on, scenario-based projects give you opportunities to apply your skills to realistic business problems.
In your final project, you'll apply your Excel skills to a realistic business scenario and finish with a polished, portfolio-ready workbook that demonstrates your ability to turn business data into actionable insights.

In this project you will learn to use the searching, sorting, and filtering features of Microsoft Excel. Using the free version of Office 365’s Excel for the web, you will manipulate spreadsheet data to make it more useful for effective business decision-making. Using a filter, you’ll isolate just the data needed. You can then sort it into a logical sequence that can turn data into the information needed for effective decision making.

By the end of this project, you will create a free account on Microsoft 365, will get access to Microsoft Excel, you will create a table with data that you will later be able to manipulate to calculate sums, average amounts, percentages, and also calculate with certain criteria. Your new skills will help you efficiently manipulate data and operate with formulas that can help make more efficient management decisions in the future.

At the end of this project, you will be able to start a simple spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. Being able to use Microsoft Excel will allow you to simplify many of your daily tasks at work but also at home. There is no limit to what you can use Microsoft Excel for, you can use it to plan the annual budget of your business, you can use it to track business expenses but you can also use it simply to keep inventory of all the books you own.

In this project, you will learn the foundation of data analysis with Microsoft Excel using sales data from a sample company. You will learn how to use sorting and filtering tools to reorganize your data and access specific information about your data. You will also learn about the use of functions like IF and VLOOKUP functions to create new data and relate data from different tables. Finally, you will learn how to create PivotTables to summarize and look at comparisons within your data. These skills will help you efficiently perform data analysis on many different types of data and give you the foundation to expand your toolbox as you explore other strategies for data analysis.

In this project, you will learn how to create charts in Microsoft Excel to analyze sales data of a sample company. You will learn how to create PivotTables to assess different aspects of the sales information, and represent the information from the tables as line, bar, and pie charts. When creating the charts, you will learn how to format them so they are easily interpreted and you will then assemble the charts in a dashboard to provide a global picture of the sales data.

In this project, you will learn how to analyze data and identify trends using a variety of tools in Microsoft Excel. Conditional formatting and charts are two tools that focus on highlighting and representing data in a visual form. With conditional formatting, you can define rules to highlight cells using a range of color scales and icons and to help you analyze data and identify trends or outliers. You will then use PivotTables to create summaries of the data that focuses on specific relationships which you will represent as a line chart and column chart. Both conditional formatting and charts are two useful ways of visually analyzing data and exploring trends.
