Antibiotic misuse is a critical issue, with significant public health consequences. The CDC and The Joint Commission recommend performing an Antibiotic Timeout 48-72 hours after starting empiric antibiotics to reassess their necessity. This ensures antibiotics are appropriately dosed, de-escalated when possible, and the right antibiotics are used.
This CME/CE course provides a practical approach to conducting Antibiotic Timeouts in the inpatient setting. Using interactive case studies, you’ll learn to reassess antibiotic therapy based on clinical, laboratory, and microbiological data. Cases will focus on common infections like skin and soft tissue infections, pneumonia, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and neutropenic fever.
