Develop practical linear algebra skills using base R. This intermediate path reviews the foundations of vectors and matrices before progressing to matrix operations and transformations.

You will initialize and manipulate vectors and matrices, perform arithmetic and matrix multiplication, and work with systems of equations. You will then explore eigenvalues, eigenvectors, matrix diagonalization, and singular value decomposition (SVD).

This path is designed for learners who want to apply linear algebra in data science, statistics, or other computational fields while strengthening their R programming skills.

Syllabus

  • Create and inspect vectors and matrices in base R
  • Calculate vector norms and matrix properties such as determinants and rank
  • Perform vector and matrix addition, subtraction, and multiplication
  • Solve systems of linear equations using matrix operations
  • Calculate eigenvalues and eigenvectors
  • Apply matrix diagonalization and singular value decomposition (SVD)
