Another excellent course from the University of Tasmania! I took the course mainly because I know people who have suffered concussion. This course explained how the brain can be damaged from concussive incidents and just what happens in the brain. Plus the consequence (long-term injury) of repeated concussions before the brain has fully healed. It should be compulsory learning for every sportsperson who is keen to get back on the playing field as soon as possible.

Made with the same thoroughness and dedication as the Understanding Dementia and Preventing Dementia courses, the Wicking Dementia Centre, University of Tasmania delivered again in creating this course on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The content is both comprehensive and authoritative - from pathology to management - while simultaneously being digestible by a wide range of audiences both professional and casual. I particularly appreciate the testimonies of survivors of TBI and/or their carers - they add a relatable, human face to the condition of interest. I highly recommend this course to everyone.

i get more knowledge about TBI and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to learn about traumatic brain injury (TBI). This experience has helped me gain a deeper understanding of how TBI affects a person’s brain function, emotions, and overall life. I feel very satisfied with the way the information was presented—clear, practical, and supported by real-life examples. The feedback I received was constructive and encouraging, helping me improve my knowledge and confidence. This opportunity has inspired me to continue learning about brain health and support individuals affected by TBI. I'm excited to apply what I've learned in meaningful and impactful ways.

A clear introduction to Traumatic Brain Injury, examining in some depth the scientfic background, trajectory through the lifespan, rehabilitation and living post injury.
There are many clear infographics, films with survivors of TBI, and quizzes to test knowledge acquired. The information is presented in video format and importantly for those who are learning about their own TBI, written format too to allow many learners to access it fully.
There are links to films of survivors talking about their injury or the injury of a loved one and plenty of links to further information for those who want to learn more. -

Understanding TBI is a wonderfully informative course about a subject that would just about effect all of us in some way. I am a 67-year-old with basic computer skills but found studying at my own pace, easy and rewarding. The information is enlightening and important in this day an age of fast cars and a high rate of substance abuse, not just involving adolescents. But with that aside it is also informative about the potential disruptive outcomes of falls experienced by the very young and the elderly. The explanations are easy to understand, and a wealth of resources are on offer. It really is a course that should not be overlooked.

This course is excellent no matter what your academic background is. For me as a nurse it not only provided me as a refresher on the brain, but I actually understand more about the pathology of TBI and the how damage in different parts of the brain affects the person. With this new knowledge I have been able to better assess (neurologically) and what to look out for. In my case it involved individuals in aged care following falls. It also introduced some assessment tools that are new to me, and I would definitely apply to my clinical practice. Great course. Thank you and well-done MOOC team.
