Negotiating World View Differences

In this session, participants gain skills to recognize and interrupt bias in a compassionate manner using the CLARA Method for cross-cultural communication. This session provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patients with culturally sensitive care.

Syllabus

After this activity, participants will be able to:

Describe the Ladder of Cultural Competence;
Illustrate how the cycle of socialization and worldview can be seen in patients;
Identify how our biases and lived experiences may influence our perception of self and others;
Identify when to use the C-LARA tool (Check your pulse, Listen, Affirm, Respond, Add) for non-violent communication;
Discuss how to practice the CLARA Method for Cross-Cultural Communication.
