Managing Agitation in Pediatric Mental Health Patients

Comer Children’s Hospital is a safe place to give and receive care, and this activity will provide additional skills to participants to de-escalate and manage challenging situations that may present themselves to ensure Comer remains safe and welcoming for everyone.

Syllabus

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

Describe how to work effectively as a team when managing patient agitation;
Identify strategies to feel safe and capable when managing patient agitation;
State how to reduce emotional distress and physical harm during patient car transfer;
Recall ways to ensure patients feel safe, respected, and calm as well as experience less anger and frustration;
List alternatives to physical restraint;
State how Policy PC-260: Behavioral Health Services protects patients, clinicians, and staff;
Review Code Green, PACT, and the Pilot program and how to use them.
