Using modern, no-code technologies, anyone can build useful and engaging geo apps. Learn how to fuse location data, web GIS capabilities, and narrative into immersive app experiences for desktop, web, and mobile users. Explore four popular ArcGIS apps and build skills to design and share apps that feature dynamic GIS capabilities and content. Each week of the course will focus on a different app.

Goals

Transform web maps into attractive apps that anyone can use to explore and analyze data, access content galleries, and interact with map features and information.
Build interactive, map-driven stories to share data and communicate impactfully with your audience.
Configure interactive dashboards that combine maps and dynamic data visualizations to empower leaders, stakeholders, or the public with at-a-glance insights.
Create immersive web apps for mobile, tablet, and desktop users that include any combination of maps, web pages, widgets, and 2D and 3D data.

Suggested Skills

Familiarity with basic GIS concepts and ArcGIS software will be helpful but is not required.

    Just completed the "Make an Impact with Modern Geo Apps" MOOC by Esri Academy, and I’m truly inspired! This course deepened my passion for building web applications, tools that transform raw spatial data into dynamic, interactive platforms where users can explore, learn, and make informed, data-driven decisions. I love how web apps make geospatial data accessible in engaging formats like dashboards, story maps, and experience builders. This enhances understanding and increases impact in real-world contexts from urban planning to environmental management. Thank you to the Esri training team for a well-structured, hands-on learning experience. I'm excited to keep exploring how modern geo apps can drive meaningful change!

    Need a class for the ArcGIS online app user. I have used the ArcGIS online app heavily. As freely available and nice functions. Ready to use functions and a lot of data sources. For me, the Daily study area is ArcGIS Online. Recently, I have not tested other functions supported by ArcGIS online, as my situation, but other freely available functions are enough to show a map to the public. More classes are needed for other online function apps, with the MOOC class. Now, Instant Map, StoryMaps, Experience Builder, and Dashboards are Modern Geo apps we need. Please expect more classes in the future.

    As a data engineer and data analyst I thoroughly enjoyed learning how to build location based apps. The course is well written with very specific and easy to follow instructions. The interface is intuitive and provides an excellent user experience. The interface and data functionality is easy to understand in relation to other reporting tools, such as PowerBI. I had a great experience overall and am excited to learn more about utilizing these GIS Apps for location based reporting.
