Ideas for a Better World: Leading Change Through Policymaking

This course was truly great! As a graduate in Public Policy I am more than inspired to take my carer aspiration to the next level. In fact, the beginning of this lessons have drawn us down to the individual level where there exists the very passions and dreams of engaging and involving in policy making as a professional and as contributor to policy making.

When we align our passion and purpose along with policy making, it create even greater motivation to participate and shows us a clear pathway in which we can do that.

Apart from that and as our obligations to humanity, we all have the duty to participate in the policy making process, whether as an ordinary citizens or as career professionals at our our various works of life we may be engage.

Moreover, as ordinary citizens our accessibility to the policy making is mostly limited because when we raise a policy idea as a private citizens, we are in an informal policy environment and up against a huge systems of government with complex systems of competing interests, various protocols and power actors .

But I am truly inspired because this course had enable me to do so based on the lessons I learn as well as some of the tools I was introduced to particularly, the Future Connect Leaders platform where I see various young people all over the world participating in policy making process.

This is great platform in fact to gather like minded people in various works of life and social cycles to work together and collaborate in the policy making process.

Some example of success stories of this platform was shared in the lessons.

And I want to quote what Mr. Danish in topic 3.17 said about raising opportunity and accessibility to the policy process and that is; "there is the need to create more platforms of engagement with policy makers." This statement is true because policy making is a thing of the government with standards systems of protocols and processes to do so.

And I think Future Connect Leaders is the right platform to do with greater measures of inclusiveness and diversification to creater wider and greater accessibility whether we are young people or older or which part of the world we come from, we are now advancing into one global village and whatever issues occurring is affecting all of us across the world.

Measures of inclusiveness and diversification in tools and systems of policy engagement can really help us to make a difference to our lives as well as the lives other people whom we feel obliged to serve.

Thank you for all the support you are providing to us these days. We are like flock of half-lost sheep. You provide us with the direction. It is beyond all possible expectations.

What I would suggest this course to have is the video with person who does not hold an office in the UN or some other influencer, but to have a story of a commoner who managed to produce an impact, though small, on community level. This would inspire such people like me, who don't believe much in international memoranda and treaties, especially, after the world came down in my own country due to our neighbor’s aggression and this is the country which is a signee to all the peaceful treaties possible, they still are trying to persuade the world in their rightness of grabbing the territory of their neighboring country, killing thousands of soldiers who “officially” lived in a country without war.

I do need some minor steps described by common people showing the example.

Passion and purpose are the two major phenomena explored in week one. Passion addresses the internal inclination and intuition for an experience one wishes to express and explore. It could be talent, gift or skill with which one can communicate one's personality to other people. It's a good thing for young people to find out what they're good at, but during this lesson, I personally learnt a better way of exploring my passion, which is through purpose. Assertions such as, what I care about, what the world needs, what I'd be paid for and what I love to do are all pointers to the purpose of passion and the passion of purpose. With these two key concepts, I will be better equipped not just to influence policies but to do it with utmost joy, systematic adventure and fulfillment.

It was enjoyable, but, as always with these courses, the main value was that it made me think very hard about the issues concerned. Whether I felt included in a great global teaching exercise...I'm not so sure. Apparently there were 10,000 participants in this particular course, but I still felt isolated. There's hardly any chance of me encountering a fellow student and few of us exchange posts. It's difficult when for so many of them English is not their first language. Still, this global approach is the only way to go. I would encourage you to keep it free and hold back on the sale of 'upgrades' and certificates. I know about the financial pressure that many universities are under, but free tuition always renders more returns than expenses. Keep doing what you are doing.

This course is really helpful for those who want to understand what policy is , what are elements that are considered when policies are developed. This course also provides information about the stakeholders who play a major role in the policymaking process.

How and which type of information is required as an evidence to rely when a policy change is being considered.

So far I've learnt several new things and I'm totally enjoying going through this course .

*SUGGESTION*: I would want to suggest more real life examples to be presented throughout the course , it's more easier for students to learn from examples.
