This course explores how anyone can be a successful startup entrepreneur or corporate innovator by thoughtfully examining themselves and the business opportunity. By harnessing these insights and cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit, you can create and transform an entrepreneurial idea into a new startup company or corporate venture.

Green, the lead faculty for this course, this unique model equips you to identify and analyze a new business opportunity that aligns with your startup entrepreneurship or corporate innovation interests.

The Opportunity Analysis Canvas distills vast amounts of research in psychology, sociology, and business into a practical how-to guide for aspiring and active entrepreneurs and innovators. The course presents a whole new understanding of entrepreneurial mindset and action. The course is structured as a nine-step experience segmented into thinking entrepreneurially, seeing entrepreneurially, and acting entrepreneurially.

Syllabus

Module 1: Introduction to Startup Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation - This module includes a welcome to the course, an orientation to our teaching approach and faculty, and an introduction to the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and innovation.

Module 2: Thinking Entrepreneurially - We examine entrepreneurial thinking within yourself and your colleagues with an awareness of entrepreneurial mindset, entrepreneurial motivations, and entrepreneurial behaviors.

Module 3: Seeing Entrepreneurially - We facilitate seeing entrepreneurially within yourself and your colleagues with attention to industry conditions, industry status, macroeconomic change, and competition.

Module 4: Acting Entrepreneurially - We explore acting entrepreneurially with an understanding of value innovation and opportunity identification.

What I thought was a decent idea going in became a real plan thanks to this course. The Opportunity Analysis Canvas gave me a super clear way to vet my idea and not waste time, which was huge. The instructor isn't just some textbook type; they use real-world examples that actually stick with you. Even if you think you've got it figured out, this course helps you turn a good concept into something you can actually execute. Very detailed analysis of what it takes to be an entrepreneur whether as a sole proprietor or in a corporate setting. Uses a model and videos to enhance instruction along with discussion for various sections. I could identify with the importance of identifying your customers and creating valuation, innovation, and technology to adapt to their needs. Being able to adapt your products to customers needs will be beneficial to engage them in features and benefits of your product. Very helpful in providing information for startups to know the pitfalls of entrepreneurship. The importance of teamwork is conveyed and dispels the myth the entrepreneurs work by themselves. The importance of having a mindset, seeing opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation was very helpful to understand entrepreneurship.

I've learnt a lot from this course. It took me around 3 weeks to complete it, I took notes all the way and now I understand how much I did not know but I should've known.

It outlined the exact things I have to research about every industry I consider involving myself in. My mindset was already in place but I understood this way that I have the right mindset, I just need more knowledge and action.

If I am to fail, I hope I'll do it fast, in order to get up and try again just as fast.

Wow! This is an impressive and very comprehensive course that takes all things to consider before putting together a startup venture. Having this background knowledge and practical information to consider will improve your chances of succeeding as an entrepreneur. For people like me that have no business background, everything is explained in a very understandable and organized manner.
Dr. James Green is an outstanding educator who has created a very interesting course; providing real life examples of innovators and startups, and what led to their success. He also provides examples of companies that experienced challenges that led to their demise.

As I am from commerce background I have heard many time the term ''ENTREPRENEUR'' and its basic definition but in this course we learn many things which does not help an entrepreneur but also helps an intrapreneur.

The course content was excellent. There are so many aspects of innovation that I wasn't aware of. I especially liked the lessons on entrepreneurial mindset, motivation, and behavior. It was fascinating to learn about all the traits and practices of people who become entrepreneurs. I think the course could have been more carefully edited. Some of the lectures referenced materials that were only available to University of Maryland students. Some of the quiz answers were incorrect. Nonetheless, I think it's worth the time for aspiring innovators.

The syllabus is very well organized and effective for new and aspiring entrepreneurs. Professor James V Greene is extremely knowledgable on the subject matter and his explanations and course delivery and teaching methods are highly effective. FHis pace and style of speech is easy to follow and understand for non native speakers as well. The course dissects challenging entrepreneurial journey into small effective bite size pieces for everyone to understand.
