This program addresses principles and applications in renewable energy technologies.
The global transition to renewable energy is not only about replacing fossil fuels – it is also about rethinking our use of materials. Renewable energy technologies (RETs) such as wind turbines, solar panels, batteries and bioenergy systems rely on significant amounts of materials, including scarce and critical raw materials (CRMs). As demand for these technologies accelerates, so do concerns about risks to supply, environmental impact and material circularity.
Through two complementary MOOCs, participants will gain both conceptual understanding and practical insights. The first course introduces the principles of circularity in renewable energy, focusing on resource demand, governance strategies, and policy frameworks that enable a more sustainable energy system. The second course dives into real-world applications, examining key renewable technologies and exploring strategies such as reuse, recycling, substitution, and design for circularity.
By the end of the program, learners will be equipped to assess material needs, evaluate critical raw material challenges, and apply circular economy tools to support more resilient and sustainable renewable energy systems.
