Data is now one of the most powerful resources available to leaders, but only if you know how to use it. In this course, you'll develop the practical skills and frameworks needed to become a more data-savvy leader, able to assess the quality, volume, and timeliness of data and apply it confidently to real-world decision-making. The need for these skills has never been greater. With 82% of decision-makers now expecting basic data literacy from employees across every department, yet only 39% of organisations making data training available to all staff (Forrester Consulting/Tableau, 2022), the gap between expectation and capability represents a significant opportunity for leaders who invest in this area. You'll gain a practical understanding of the data deluge facing modern organisations, explore what can and cannot be managed within it, and apply a multi-stage decision-making framework designed to simplify complex projects in volatile and uncertain environments. By the end of this course, you'll be equipped to critically evaluate how data — and its limitations — should shape leadership decisions in the 21st century. This course is suitable for current or aspiring leaders and managers who want to strengthen their data literacy and decision-making capabilities. No prior technical knowledge is required. What makes a great leader, and does the data actually support it? In this course, you'll critically examine the leadership narratives that have shaped organisations from Ancient Greece to the modern digital age, and discover why data-driven research challenges many of the assumptions we've long taken for granted. With 88% of C-suite executives believing data insights are crucial for maintaining competitive advantage and strategic decision-making (IBM Institute for Business Value, 2025), and 80% of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics teams now viewing advanced data skills as essential to their core functions (TDWI, 2025), the ability to evaluate leadership through a data-driven lens has never been more valuable. You'll evaluate traditional and scientific leadership models, analyse how agile structures differ from hierarchical ones, and assess the role of collective decision-making in data-rich environments. By the end of the course, you'll be able to identify whether a leadership narrative helps or hinders effectiveness in today's organisations, and articulate why that distinction matters. This course is suitable for current or aspiring leaders, managers, and professionals working in or alongside data-driven environments. No prior knowledge of leadership theory is required. The 21st century has fundamentally disrupted how organisations make decisions and plan for the future. In this course, you'll explore why agility has become an essential leadership capability, and how the rise of data has challenged traditional hierarchical structures and long-established approaches to strategic planning. With the enterprise agile transformation services market projected to grow from USD 41.2 billion in 2024 to USD 48.75 billion in 2025 (Business Research Company), agile leadership skills have never been more in demand. You'll examine the Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) environment that defines modern organisations, and discover how leaders are responding by shifting from rigid, top-down strategies to more exploratory, data-informed approaches. By the end of this course, you'll be equipped to assess the role of data quality, volume, and timeliness in real-world decision-making and apply agile thinking to the leadership challenges you face. This course is suitable for current or aspiring leaders and managers looking to strengthen their strategic thinking in a data-rich environment. No prior knowledge of data science or strategic planning is required. References: Business Research Company. (2025). Enterprise Agile Transformation Services Global Market Report 2025. This capstone course is your opportunity to bring together everything you have learned across the Data-Driven Leadership specialisation and demonstrate your skills in practice. Rather than introducing new content, this course is designed to consolidate your understanding of leadership narratives, agile strategy, and data-driven decision-making through a structured, assessed assignment. You will choose from one of three assignment options, each focused on a core theme from the specialisation: leadership narratives, agile leadership, or data-driven decision-making. Whichever you choose, you will be expected to apply critical thinking, draw on evidence and data, and demonstrate your ability to evaluate leadership approaches in a real-world context. Completing this capstone is a significant achievement. It signals to employers and peers that you have not only engaged with cutting-edge leadership theory, but that you can apply it. Research consistently shows that leaders who combine data literacy with strategic and agile thinking are among the most sought-after in today's organisations — and this capstone gives you the evidence to demonstrate exactly that. No new prerequisites are required beyond completion of the preceding courses in this specialisation.
