Another excellent online course by Barbara Oakley with Terrence Sejnowski, and introducing Adam Trybus. Alongside some revision about how the brain makes connections as we learn, we are introduced to various logical concepts needed for thinking critically.
As always, the course is well researched, well presented, polished, and has some amusing riffs both in the course videos and the quizzes. Interest is maintained by the judicious use of images, video clips, and animations to illustrate the course material. I look forward to the next course from Deep Teaching Solutions! -
This is a great specialization to start a journey into critical thinking, as a professor I face the challenge of helping my students think critically in the age of LLMs and having easy outs to every taxing assignment. This course gave me concrete ideas to how I can get them thinking even if they're using generative AI to get out of some of the proven harsher assignments.

I found the course very useful, illustrative, and insightful. It offers a clear look at how our brains work and how difficult it can be to question our own assumptions in an argument, since we are shaped by our experiences and context. This helps explain how people may commit to certain causes on the basis of fallacious reasoning, sometimes with tragic consequences. Regardless of how skilled you are at spotting logical flaws, understanding how the brain works will deepen and enrich your comprehension.

An insightful MOOC that gradually builds up awareness of different types of logical reasoning and presents them in a graspable manner. I'll admit that my brain still struggles to grasp some of the concepts presented, but that's part of the point: we need to develop our intellectual humility and involve others to support our reasoning. There's a wealth of reference material made available for those who want to dive deeper into any of the topics presented.
As with other Deep Teaching Solutions MOOCs, the course is very well presented, with striking visualisations and analogies making the material accessible to different audiences. -
The course was good. However, it was a lot of terms to remember. It provided insight into how our brains work and what prevents us from thinking critically. And as they say, knowing is half the battle, so we can now consciously try to think more deliberately and challenge our own biases.

When starting this course it was not fully clear for me what to expect, but since I knew the instructors from other ecellent courses, I was convinced that this will be interesting. This course about crtical thinking and reasoning is again a course with this mixture of neuro science and adiitional knowledge, which I can recommend to everybody. It helps to reflect my own behavor, rethink habits and might really improve interaction with others at work.
And the presentation and videos are excellent as always. -

Loved it! Really insightful and easy to follow. It will make me a better non-executive director for sure! And a better parent and wife :)

I think it was a fairly successful attempt at giving a general overview of very loaded topics like deductive reasoning etc. However I thought more examples of challenging ideas like different types of reasoning might have been helpful for understanding them in more depth.

The course combines neuroscience, psychology, and practical reasoning skills to improve how we think and make decisions. I appreciated the clear explanations of cognitive biases, especially confirmation bias, and how our brain’s fast and slow thinking can influence judgment. The mix of deductive, inductive, and hypothetical reasoning exercises was very practical, with a strong focus on applying logic in real-world situations. Additionally, the course encourages reflection on personal decision-making habits, helping learners identify patterns that may lead to errors. The interactive examples and real-life scenarios made the content relatable and engaging. Ideal for anyone wanting to think critically and make more informed choices.

I have found the classes fascinating. The speakers explain complex terms in an easy way with practical examples and funny pictures. I took previoulsy Barbaras learn to learn course which is one of my favourites. This course with a mixture of phylosophy, science and social relationship is open minded and truly important for todays world. Congratulations and thanks

The course was incredibly helpful, well-structured, and deeply insightful. It has already improved the way I think, approach arguments, and evaluate ideas. The concept of the scout mindset aligned perfectly with what I aim to develop in myself. This is a must-take course for anyone looking to enhance their critical thinking skills.

Utterly superb! The instructors explain everything so clearly, making complex topics very understandable. They give a very holistic view of reasoning and give lots of guidance and tools to help learners on the way. One of the best is the AI chatbot tool, which is a back-and-forth conversational question-and-answer tool, which really solidifies and expose gaps in our understanding. This course has really helped me to reason better, which I will apply to help me come up with new ideas and solve problems and tackle challenges in both my work and personal life. Lastly, the course was delivered in a very enjoyable format, and I am genuinely sad it is over!
