Syllabus

  • Why Writing About Data Matters 
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of communicating data effectively to inform, persuade, and support decision-making. You will explore the role of data in research and business, learn the principles of effective data communication, and discover how to design clear, impactful visualizations that help audiences understand and act on data-driven insights.
  • Data Storytelling Through Writing 
    • This module explores how to communicate data effectively through clear, engaging written narratives. You will learn how to present insights, trends, and patterns in ways that are meaningful to different audiences, use storytelling techniques to strengthen the impact of your findings, and select appropriate communication formats to help readers understand and act on data-driven evidence.
  • Writing Your Report 
    • This module focuses on presenting data effectively within research and professional reports. You will learn how to communicate complex findings with clarity, write about data in a way that supports your overall narrative, develop a strong methodology section, and present data appropriately throughout each stage of a report to maximise understanding and impact.
  • Adding Visuals to the Narrative 
    • This module provides a practical guide to creating effective data visualizations that communicate insights clearly and persuasively. You will learn the key steps involved in designing impactful visualizations, understand the reasoning behind best-practice approaches, and apply these techniques to present your own data in ways that are accurate, engaging, and easy to understand.
