Advanced drafting and annotation skills are essential for producing professional-quality technical drawings in engineering, architecture, and design industries. This course focuses on advanced 2D AutoCAD techniques, helping learners master layouts, dimensions, annotations, blocks, parametric tools, and plotting workflows used in real-world drafting environments. Learners will develop the ability to create organized drawing layouts, apply accurate annotations, and manage reusable design elements efficiently. The course also explores advanced tools such as arrays, external references, parametric constraints, and plotting techniques that streamline drafting workflows and improve project consistency. What makes this course unique is its practical focus on production-ready drafting methods combined with industry-standard AutoCAD features. Learners gain hands-on experience applying advanced tools to improve drawing precision, scalability, and collaboration across design projects. This course is ideal for learners with foundational AutoCAD knowledge who want to advance their drafting and documentation skills. Prior experience with basic AutoCAD drawing and editing tools is recommended. This course is part two of a three-course Specialization designed to provide a comprehensive learning pathway in this subject area. While it delivers standalone value and practical skills, learners seeking a more integrated and in-depth progression may benefit from completing the full Specialization. This Specialization is based on the book, AutoCAD For Dummies, by Ralph Grabowski. From AutoCAD For Dummies. You will discover how to navigate between model and paper spaces, utilize layout tabs, and streamline the plotting process for various drawing outputs.
  • Text with Character
    • This module guides learners through the essentials of adding, styling, and managing text in CAD drawings to enhance clarity and documentation. You will explore creating and customizing text styles, using single-line and multiline text, working with tables and leaders, and leveraging annotative objects for scalable annotations. By mastering these tools, you will improve both the efficiency and professionalism of your technical drawings.
  • Entering New Dimensions
    • This module guides learners through the essential tools and techniques for dimensioning in AutoCAD, including the use of annotative dimensions, configuring and managing dimension styles, and efficiently editing dimension objects. By mastering these skills, learners will be able to create accurate, scalable, and professional technical drawings.
  • Down the Hatch!
    • This module introduces the use of hatches in AutoCAD to represent materials, enhance visualization, and improve design clarity. Learners will discover how to create, scale, and manage hatches on dedicated layers, as well as explore advanced hatch options for greater control and precision.
  • The Plot Thickens
    • This module guides learners through essential plotting techniques in AutoCAD, including configuring printers, managing output accuracy, and controlling lineweights and colors. You will discover how to produce both hard-copy and electronic drawings to industry standards, ensuring your plots are clear, accurate, and professional.
  • The ABCs of Blocks
    • This module introduces the process of creating, inserting, and managing blocks in AutoCAD to streamline drafting workflows. Learners will discover how to define blocks, utilize attributes for dynamic text fields, and modify or explode blocks as needed. By the end, you'll be able to efficiently reuse drawing components and enhance productivity in your CAD projects.
  • Everything from Arrays to Xrefs
    • This module guides learners through advanced AutoCAD features including associative arrays, external references (xrefs), raster image attachments, and dynamic blocks. You will discover how these tools streamline design workflows, enhance collaboration, and improve drawing organization. Practical steps and best practices are provided for efficient resource management and editing.
  • Call the Parametrics!
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of parametric tools in AutoCAD, including the use of geometric and dimensional constraints to create flexible and accurate 2D designs. Learners will discover how to efficiently manage design variations using the Parameters Manager and explore the differences between constraints and traditional dimensions. Practical exercises guide users through applying and inferring constraints for smarter, more adaptable drawings.
  • Drawing on the Internet
    • This module introduces techniques for integrating AutoCAD with internet-based tools to streamline file sharing and collaboration.
