This course is aimed at helping new leaders of Systems Engineering projects with industry experience in related technical and non-technical roles. The course will provide an overview of the traditional Systems Engineering processes and tools used to successfully bring complex systems into being.

Syllabus

  • Foundations of Systems Engineering
    • This module introduces the origins, principles, and roles of systems engineering. Learners will explore general systems theory, historical development, and the interdisciplinary nature of systems engineering, including the balance between technical and managerial domains.
  • Project Management and Risk in Systems Engineering
    • This module covers the integration of project management with systems engineering, emphasizing risk management, roles and responsibilities, and the triple constraint. Learners will develop skills in identifying, analyzing, and responding to risks throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Requirements Engineering and Lifecycle Models
    • This module focuses on requirements engineering, stakeholder engagement, and the role of lifecycle models (Waterfall, V-model) in systems development. Learners will explore best practices in elicitation, validation, and specification of requirements.
  • System Analysis, Architecture, and Requirements Management
    • This module delves into system analysis, decomposition, architecture, and requirements management. Learners will practice functional analysis, interface definition, and baseline management, supported by visual tools such as diagramming techniques.
