High-quality software is essential for delivering reliable, secure, and user-friendly digital solutions. This course introduces the core principles, methodologies, and practical techniques used by software quality assurance (QA) professionals and software testers throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Learners will develop a strong foundation in software quality concepts before progressing to industry-standard testing practices, including test planning, Agile testing, test-driven development (TDD), software test design techniques, test automation, static analysis, and software quality metrics. Using realistic case studies and hands-on activities based on a real-world web application, learners will apply software testing techniques to practical scenarios, design effective test cases, evaluate software quality, and make testing decisions based on changing requirements. Throughout the course, learners will participate in interactive AI-supported role plays, practical exercises, and testing activities that simulate real software testing projects, helping bridge the gap between theory and industry practice. By the end of this course, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills required to participate effectively in software quality assurance activities within Agile and traditional software development environments.

Syllabus

  • Software quality fundamentals concepts and quality process
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of software quality and testing (SQAT) and all its concepts. It covers the quality terminologies, software quality fundamentals, an introduction to software development life cycles and the seven principles of testing. Understanding the fundamentals of software quality and related concepts is essential for building high-quality software, ensuring regulatory, compliance and security have been met, minimising costs of error after the software is in production, and lastly and most importantly, providing delightful user experiences in using the software which meets users' expectations.
  • Introduction to test phases in SDLC
    • This Module gives further insights and a comprehensive understanding of testing in the software development life cycle (SDLC), introduced during Module 1.  By learning about the different types of testing, such as unit testing, regression testing, component testing, integration testing, exploratory testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT), you can gain insight into the various approaches used to ensure software quality.  Understanding test plans, test strategies, and the trade-offs associated with these strategies will equip you with the knowledge for planning and executing effective testing processes in real-world software development scenarios. It is vital for aspiring software developers and testers, as it forms the foundation for delivering reliable and high-quality software products.
  • Agile testing and test driven development
    • This topic expands on Agile testing, building on the software development life cycle (SDLC) discussed in Topic 2. It explores testing in the Agile methodology, including stages of agile testing, user story and sprint concepts. Additionally, it introduces test driven development and the adaptability of testing strategies in the process.
  • Testing techniques
    • In this Module, we will delve into the fundamental concepts of test case design techniques and explore various methods that are essential for new software testers to understand. These techniques are crucial for ensuring the effectiveness and thoroughness of software testing, ultimately leading to higher quality software products.
  • Test automation & static Analysis
    • Welcome to this module's exploration of test automation and static analysis. Test automation boosts efficiency, while static analysis enhances code quality. Mastering these is crucial for modern software testers. Throughout this course, we'll delve into these techniques, equipping you with practical skills and insights. By the end, you'll be ready to contribute effectively to quality assurance in software development.
  • Software quality metrics
    • This topic introduces typical software quality metrics that consist of product, process and project metrics. This topic also covers code quality metrics and how to measure technical debts using quality metrics.
