Employers keep saying the same thing: the technical qualifications arrive, and the soft skills do not. Attitude, character, communication, cultural awareness, appearance and etiquette, time management, teamwork, critical thinking, work ethic, and leadership are the behaviors that decide whether a capable candidate becomes a valued colleague, and most people are left to pick them up by accident. This course makes them explicit, teachable, and practicable, so you can build them on purpose rather than hope they arrive on their own. Across four thematic modules and eight focused lessons, you will start with the foundation, namely what soft skills actually are, how a positive attitude is chosen rather than inherited, and how character is built through everyday decisions. You will then move outward into connecting with people through interpersonal communication, cultural awareness, and first impressions; onward into getting work done through time management, teamwork, and critical thinking; and finally into putting soft skills to work through a strong work ethic, leadership from any seat in the organization, and the moment they are judged most directly, namely the resume and the interview. Each lesson opens with two five-minute topic videos followed immediately by applied practice, and every module closes with a hands-on lab, a roleplay, a discussion prompt, and a graded assessment, so nothing stays theoretical for long. Whether you are entering the workforce, changing direction, or coaching others who are, this course gives you the self-assessment scales, practice exercises, and real-life scenarios that turn soft skills from a vague expectation into a set of behaviors you can name, rate, and improve. By the end, you will be able to demonstrate your soft skills deliberately in daily work and evidence them convincingly to an employer.

Syllabus

  • Introduction to the Entire Course
    • Provides a starting-point assessment that helps learners understand their current readiness across the soft skills developed throughout the course. It highlights strengths and development needs across attitude and character, communication and cultural awareness, time management and teamwork, and work ethic, leadership, and career readiness, then uses these results to recommend where learners may benefit from greater focus. The pathway gate supports self-awareness and flexible navigation without restricting access to any part of the course.
  • Laying Down a Solid Foundation: Soft Skills, Attitude, and Character
    • Establishes the foundation for understanding and developing the soft skills that shape workplace success. Learners distinguish soft skills from hard skills, explore the ten essential skill areas, and examine why employers value them alongside technical ability. The module then focuses on attitude and character, helping learners assess their current behaviors, develop a more positive attitude, and strengthen character through deliberate everyday choices.
  • Connecting with People: Communication, Culture, and First Impressions
    • Develops the interpersonal skills needed to communicate clearly, connect effectively with others, and create positive professional impressions. Learners explore active listening, barriers to connection, and the visual, vocal, and verbal elements of communication. They also examine cultural awareness, the diversity iceberg, stereotyping, appearance, etiquette, and the behaviors that shape first impressions in workplace interactions.
  • Getting Work Done: Time, Teams, and Thinking
    • Builds the practical skills needed to manage work effectively, collaborate with others, and approach workplace problems thoughtfully. Learners distinguish productive work from simply being busy, strengthen time-management practices, and explore how cooperation supports stronger teams and healthier conflict resolution. The module also develops critical thinking through independent thought, questioning, separating fact from opinion, examining bias and assumptions, and applying structured problem-solving approaches.
  • Putting Soft Skills to Work: Ethic, Leadership, and Career
    • Brings the course skills into visible workplace behavior and career development. Learners explore work ethic, accountability, and the character traits that demonstrate professional reliability, then examine how leadership can be practiced from any position. The module connects all ten soft skills to everyday behavior, personal values, resumes, and interviews, helping learners build credible evidence of their strengths for current and prospective employers.
  • Course Wrap-Up and Next Steps
    • Provides practical reference, reflection, and application resources that help learners reinforce and continue developing the ten soft skills introduced throughout the course. These resources consolidate key self-rating scales, communication frameworks, cultural awareness tools, critical thinking practices, work-ethic traits, leadership concepts, and career-readiness guidance for continued use. The collection also includes a final project in which learners identify their largest soft skills gaps and create a four-week development plan built around observable behaviors, measurable improvement, and evidence they can demonstrate to an employer.
