This course explores the role of sport as a tool for promoting inclusion, health, and social cohesion in contemporary societies. Through social perspectives and examples from the sports ecosystem, learners will analyze how sport can contribute to equal opportunities, combat discrimination, and create spaces for participation for everyone. From gender equality and the inclusion of people with disabilities to the role of sport in social integration, the course connects today’s social challenges with the transformative potential of sport. Throughout the lessons, you will discover how sport can foster intercultural dialogue, strengthen community cohesion, and support education and community development initiatives. You will also learn how to promote active lifestyles, address public health challenges, and design social strategies within sports organizations. By the end of the course, you will understand how to develop sports initiatives with social impact, generate value for communities, and use sport as a driver of wellbeing, inclusion, and positive change.

Syllabus

  • Sport for all - inclusion
    • Explore the principles and practices of inclusive sport that ensures equal access and participation for all. This module addresses gender equality barriers and solutions, examines strategies to combat social and racial discrimination, and investigates how sports infrastructure and programs can be designed to welcome people with disabilities and create truly accessible sporting environments.
  • Sport, peace and living together
    • Discover how sport serves as a powerful platform for building peaceful, integrated communities through intercultural dialogue and social cohesion. This module covers methodologies for using sport to facilitate migrant integration, promote tolerance and citizenship, and develop educational programs that extend learning beyond the playing field into broader social contexts.
  • Sport and health
    • Understand the critical relationship between sport and public health, from addressing sedentary lifestyles to implementing therapeutic sports programs. This module examines physical activity as a health intervention tool, explores the concept of prescription sports in preventive healthcare, and investigates adapted sports practices that promote wellbeing across diverse populations and abilities.
  • Managing a societal strategy in a sports organization
    • Develop practical skills for implementing and managing social sustainability strategies within sports organizations. This module covers territorial diagnosis techniques to align with public policies, stakeholder engagement approaches for co-creating social action plans, and comprehensive methods for measuring social impact and creating lasting legacy through sports initiatives and events.
