This course features Coursera Coach! A smarter way to learn with interactive, real-time conversations that help you test your knowledge, challenge assumptions, and deepen your understanding as you progress through the course. In this course, you'll master the art of procedural texture creation in Blender 4.4, focusing on efficient shader development and complex material design. You’ll begin by learning the fundamentals of the Shader Editor, value manipulation in shaders, and how to construct basic materials. As you progress, you’ll gain hands-on experience with advanced nodes such as Math Nodes, Mix Color Nodes, and more, applying them to real-world scenarios like creating realistic textures for 3D models. The course then guides you through building a realistic kitchen scene, where you’ll construct PBR shaders, manipulate textures, and create interactive elements like randomizing color and applying surface detail. Each section is filled with practical examples, enabling you to learn by doing and build a solid foundation in procedural texturing. This course is perfect for those interested in advancing their 3D modeling and shader development skills. Beginners in Blender will find the content accessible, and experienced users can deepen their knowledge with advanced procedural techniques. By the end of the course, you will be able to build your own shaders, manipulate textures using Blender’s powerful node system, create realistic materials, and optimize workflows for complex scenes and textures.

Syllabus

  • Project Setup
    • In this module, we lay the foundation for procedural texturing in Blender 4.4. We begin by setting up Blender’s workspace and introducing key components like the Shader Editor, Math Node, and Texture Coordinate Node. We’ll also create our first basic material and dive into essential shortcuts to enhance productivity. This module concludes with the creation of a stylized screentone shader, giving you hands-on experience with procedural materials.
  • The Kitchen Scene
    • In this module, we introduce a practical kitchen scene project where you’ll apply your procedural texturing skills. You’ll create PBR shaders, modify procedural textures, and simulate surface details using the Bump Node. Further, we’ll cover how to randomize colors for diverse object instances, assign multiple materials, and overcome Eevee limitations. By the end of this module, you’ll build a realistic tile shader, enhance it with random color variations, and master the art of baking textures into image files for use across applications.
