Syllabus

  • Introduction to Jakarta EE
    • This module introduces the foundational concepts of Jakarta EE, including its core API specifications and their role in enterprise Java development. Learners will explore how Jakarta EE serves as a standard and how multiple implementations enable flexible server-side application development.
  • Contexts and Dependency Injection
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of using Contexts and Dependency Injection (CDI) in Jakarta EE applications. Learners will discover how to manage bean lifecycles, utilize qualifiers for precise dependency injection, and implement event-driven communication between components.
  • Jakarta RESTful Web Services
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of building and consuming RESTful web services using Jakarta REST. Learners will explore configuring resource paths, handling parameters, working with JSON, and developing both server and client-side applications, including server-sent events. Practical examples illustrate how to implement and interact with RESTful APIs in Java.
  • JSON Processing and JSON Binding
    • This module introduces the Jakarta APIs for processing and binding JSON data in Java applications. Learners will explore techniques for parsing, generating, and updating JSON using both the object model and streaming APIs, as well as applying JSON Patch for partial updates. By the end, you'll be able to efficiently handle JSON data within Java projects.
  • Microservices Development with Jakarta EE
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of building microservices using Jakarta EE, emphasizing RESTful API design, service communication, and modular application structure. Learners will dispel common misconceptions about Jakarta EE's suitability for microservices and explore practical implementation patterns such as the controller service.
  • Jakarta Faces
    • This module introduces the Jakarta Faces framework for building web application user interfaces using convention over configuration. Learners will explore standard and custom validation, message handling, and navigation techniques to create efficient and user-friendly web forms. The module also covers customizing validation messages for improved user experience.
  • Additional Jakarta Faces Features
    • This module introduces advanced features of Jakarta Faces, including integration with HTML5, the use of Ajax for dynamic interfaces, and the implementation of Faces Flows for managing multi-page processes. Learners will discover how these enhancements can improve both developer productivity and user experience in Jakarta EE web applications.
  • Object Relational Mapping with Jakarta Persistence
    • This module introduces learners to Jakarta Persistence for managing data in relational databases using Java. You will explore how to perform CRUD operations, map entity relationships, and utilize both JPQL and the Criteria API for querying and updating data. The module also covers advanced topics such as composite primary keys and complex entity associations.
  • WebSockets
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of real-time, bidirectional communication using WebSockets in both Java and JavaScript. Learners will discover how WebSockets differ from traditional HTTP communication and gain hands-on experience developing WebSocket clients for interactive web applications.
  • Securing Jakarta EE Applications
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of securing Jakarta EE applications, focusing on standardized security APIs, identity stores, and authentication mechanisms. Learners will explore both built-in and custom authentication approaches, including integration with web frameworks. By the end, participants will understand how to implement and customize security features in Jakarta EE environments.
  • Servlet Development and Deployment
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of Java EE servlet development, including handling user input from HTML forms, managing data persistence across requests, and deploying servlets in web applications. Learners will also explore advanced topics such as request forwarding, response redirection, servlet filters, and asynchronous processing. By the end, you'll understand how servlets integrate with modern Java web frameworks.
  • Jakarta Enterprise Beans
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of Jakarta Enterprise Beans, focusing on session and message-driven beans, their life cycles, transaction management, and security features. Learners will explore practical examples, asynchronous processing, and timer services to build scalable enterprise applications. By the end, you'll understand how to implement and manage enterprise beans for robust Java EE solutions.
  • Jakarta Messaging
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of asynchronous communication in Jakarta EE applications using Jakarta Messaging. Learners will explore key messaging models, including point-to-point and publish/subscribe, and gain hands-on experience with sending and retrieving messages through queues and topics.
  • Web Services with Jakarta XML Web Services
    • This module introduces the fundamentals of implementing SOAP-based web services using Jakarta XML Web Services. Learners will discover how to expose Enterprise Beans as web services, develop Java clients from WSDL files, and handle file attachments in web service operations. By the end, participants will be equipped to build and interact with robust XML web services in Jakarta EE.
  • Putting it All Together
    • This module guides learners through the process of building a customer data application using Jakarta EE, integrating multiple APIs to implement core CRUD operations and pagination.
